The project
FarmBalance will establish an Intelligence-as-a-Service (IntaaS) platform that merges environmental and commercial data to allow farms to increase their resilience and the value of their natural capital and monetise this through their supply chains.
This will be developed using a 650-acre calibration site in Northeast Scotland, anchored to the wider Scotch whisky sector and key supply chain partners.
Terrabotics and JHI will design a multi-variate statistical machine learning approach to transform the multiple environmental sensing data into a calibrated and validated model providing farmers with actionable, affordable reporting to make informed environmental sustainability decisions and leverage this profitably. FarmBalance framework spans all four competition themes given the breadth of measures tested and application areas. The focus will be on biodiversity, soil carbon and soil health measures as core indicators based on input from end customers including Pernod Ricard and farmers.
Project Goal
The ultimate output will be a proprietary model that delivers affordable, effective insights and metrics to farms on biodiversity, soil carbon, forest carbon, crop yield and other key information proven from first principle observed at Cairnfield. This will help farmers make informed decisions on how sustainably allocate, use and manage land for environmental and financial return.
