It’s not often you get a new King

By 4th May 2023No Comments

I mean I suspect even Charles wondered if it might ever happen. But here it is and if you love the Royals, you’re ambivalent about them, just watched The Crown, but won’t be waving a flag at the weekend or even if wish we could sack them all, sell the houses and land and give the money to the NHS, it looks like we’re in for another round of Royal Family.

Kings go back a long way – I recently travelled to Scotland and stood on a mound where the rock has a carving the new to be crowned King placed his foot, and assuming all went well and an adversary did not take him down he’d be crowned there. Travel to France and they’re a little short of Royals, no more King Louis! Yay say some, but nay say others – he was grabbing too much tax off the people, so monarchs be warned! Other famous Kings include King Canute – he thought he could hold back the tide by command. Then there is the Emperor who believed he had new clothes, at least until he found out the naked truth!

Whatever you think about the British Monarchy, they are unmovable as a part of our British culture and identity. The Queen’s funeral was watched by 28 million in the UK and 5.1 Billion worldwide. As an ambassador for the Country Queen Elizabeth did make a monumental impression on Kings, Presidents, and people around the world.

As a Marketing man looking at Brand Queen I’m not sure she could have done and given any more to us the British people. For King Charles this is a huge role to fill, one which in his own way may be defined by his own beliefs about environment and perhaps, and I hope at just the right time.

Either way from the team at DNA we hope you have a great long weekend, from our offices in Harrogate.
